Hi Tar!  Welcome to the forum.  Interesting issues you have!  I would recommend you contact Ed Erickson at Autumn Breeze Kennel-his information is on the gun-dog-trainers.com website, or you can go to http://www.abkvc.com.  He has been training many diverse breeds of hunting dogs for years, including Vizsla's and Weim's, and has had great success with NAVHDA trialed dogs too.

Hope this helps!

Greetings to all!...
My name is Tarlawn, but I go by'Tar' for short..
anyway, I am in Texas staying at my parent's house..my sister owns 2 Vizsla's ,one of which my dad had sent for training a while back.

"Copper" was there for only about 2-3 months when the trainer declaired him "Un-trainable".. He said that Copper was not interested in birds, so my dad brought him back home. My dad didn't even bother with our othe Vizsla, 'Hena'. I found this hard to believe, since both dogs were ALWAYS trying to catch the little sparrows that made their homes in the trees and bushes on my dad's property.

Hena had one litter of puppies. We sold all but one. My dad was hoping that maybe this puppy would turn out to be a good hunter. We kept 'Amigo' until he was almost 1yr old before giving him to another trainer. While Amigo was at our house, he too would try to catch the little sparrows...So anyway, Amigo has been with this trainer for 2 months or so and this trainer has told my dad that Amigo is not interested in birds!..

I'm so frusterated. My dad told the trainer that if Amigo isn't good, to find him another home. I told my dad that I believe it's the fault of the trainer, not the fault of the dog. It doesn't make any sence to me that while the dogs are at our home, they are all about trying to catch little birds, but once they go to get trained they don't do well.

I want to prove to my dad that Vizsla's ARE indeed GREAT hunting dogs, if only he would give the dog a chance. I read somewhere that, for example, the Weimaranier develops slowly. Their brains are still immature at ages 1 & 2 and that they start to become "trainable" by ages 3 & 4. I want to say that I have read this to ALSO be True of the Vizsla.

If someone could shed some light on this topic, I would greatly appreciate that, as I am frusterated with my dad's lack of patience with the breed.

Thanks!

Had all kinds of blood work and urine testing done - preliminary result had shown some slight above/below normal testing of calcium and phosphorous.  Just had extensive tests done and everything was normal.  In further research it appears that these can be driven by just about any kind of stimuli.  Clear down to the food that you are feeding them.

That is how I hunt grouse and pheasant - with a beeper collar.  I had also used on my previous GSP as well.

I have a 3 year old GSP - just recently had a seizure.
Gone to the vet and going back again on Wed, additional blood and Urine work up.
Anyone else out there with these issues?

Thoughts/ideas welcomed -

I have been looking for a good forum on GSP's - appears that this is a fairly new one.  Found this link through the trainer that I used at Autumn Breeze Kennels.  Am also looking for health related information, etc.  but do not see a category for this.

I hunt pheasant and grouse in IA and MN - with an excellent GSP trained at ABK.

Look forward to future posts.

Hello JoesephB, what type of info are you looking to exchange?  What type of gun dog do you hunt with, what type of birds do you hunt and where do you hunt?  Please provide us some more detail so we can engage in conversation!
