What classifies a dog as being "versitile" in the field? I have my opinions, but would like to know what you guys think.

According to NAVHDA, which coincides what I was told:

The North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association defines versatility as "the dog that is bred and trained to dependably hunt and point game, to retrieve on both land and water, and to track wounded game on both land and water."

Basically a dog that hunts on land, retrieves on both land and water, and tracks on both land and water.
